Young Mr. Grace warns Mr. Rumbold that there will be a fire drill but refuses to tell him at what time. Meanwhile, an Arab Emir arrives in the department wishing to buy a pair of trousers for one of his wives, but no one is allowed to touch her, so measuring her proves difficult. While they are completing the sale, the fire alarm goes off and the staff response means they all have to stay behind that evening and practise what to do if there is a fire.

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

Poor fire drill performance results in a spot drill organized by Mr. Grace. Too bad the entire staff is trying to fit a sheik's wife for trousers at the same time! Naturally, the sheik selects Mr. Humphries to measure her with the order that he is not to touch her! And the sheik also wants to pay in goats, rugs, and women instead of cash! Just as the sheik is forking over wads of £100 notes, the fire drill interrupts it! Since the performance on this drill was poor, again (Captain Peacock carried the harem dancer off and Mr. Humphries and Mr. Lucas tried to make off with some of the sheik's money), Mr. Rumbold organizes a fire practice after work. The objects of the exercise: provide mouth-to-mouth to a dummy (which is ruined when Captain Peacock inflates her breasts instead), learn a fireman's lift (Mr. Humphries' favorite activity) and slide down some sort of tube contraption. Which would be fine except that Mrs. Slocombe gets stuck and there may be a real fire going on!
